Sacroiliac Joint (SI) Dysfunction is a common cause of lower back, hip, and leg pain.
The hip bones are connected to the sacrum via the sacroiliac joint. The sacroiliac joints absorb shock movements between the upper body, pelvis, and legs and has minimal movements. However, hyper mobility of the sacroiliac joint can lead to pelvis instability. Furthermore, lack of movement can cause muscle stiffness, pain, and decreased mobility. It is often worsened by flexion, abduction and external rotation of the hip. Dysfunction of the sacroiliac joint can cause inflammation, most commonly found in young and middle aged-women.
