Martial Arts

Dr. Nitin Agarwal has over 15 years of martial arts experience in the disciplines of Taekwondo, Tang Soo Do, Karate, Jiu-Jitsu, and Krav Maga. Dr. Agarwal began his martial arts career in 1996. He earned his 1st Degree Black Belt in 1999, followed by his 2nd Degree Black Belt in 2001 under the tutelage of Master Wayne Materi in Fargo, North Dakota. In May of 2007, Dr. Agarwal graduated from The Lawrenceville School in Lawrenceville, NJ. Shortly after, in 2008, he earned in 3rd Degree Black Belt under the tutelage of Dr. Eric J. Albrecht, a 10 Time World Sparring Champion. Under the instruction of Dr. Albrecht, Dr. Agarwal also earned his Corner, Center, and Chief Judge certifications for ATA sanctioned tournament competitions.
Dr. Agarwal graduated from The College of New Jersey with Honors in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. In March of 2012, he earned his Black Collar recognizing him as a Certified ATA Instructor and School Owner. He graduated from medical school at the Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in May of 2014. Afterwards, he completed his Neurological Surgery residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. During this time, he also completed an enfolded fellowship in sports medicine as well as in minimally invasive and complex spine surgery. He then completed a minimally invasive and complex spine surgery fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco before moving to Washington University School of Medicine to serve as the director of neurotrauma. He then moved to University of Pittsburgh Department of Neurological Surgery as an associate professor and the associate program director of the UPMC/University of Pittsburgh neurological surgery residency program, and co-director of the Complex and Minimally Invasive Spine Deformity Fellowship and the Director of the Minimally Invasive Spine and Robotics Surgery program.
