Spinal tumors are abnormal growths within the vertebrae or the spinal canal.
Spinal cord tumors arise as an uncontrollable growth of cells within or surrounding the spinal canal. They are classified into two main type of tumors: those within the dura, and those outside the dura. Cancers from outside the nervous system can also metastasize to the vertebrae, causing pain, fractures, neurological problems, paralysis, and more. Patients often complain of back pain, decreased temperature sensitivity, loss of bowel and/or bladder function, weakness, and loss of sensation in their arms and legs. Contact a physician if you are experiencing any of the mentioned symptoms.
