Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion (ACDF)

An ACDF is one of the most common surgeries performed by spine surgeons.
Spine surgeons aim to provide relief to their patients by either decompressing and/or fusing the spine. Both decompression and fusion procedures offer varying degrees of symptomatic relief. However, decompressive procedures are often followed by the need for more decompressive procedures or a fusion procedure. An ACDF is one of the most common surgeries performed by spine surgeons

Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion (ACDF) is a common type of spine surgery that involves removal of a herniated disc, followed by fusion of the spine. The surgery is conducted through the front of the neck. If the same surgery is performed through the back of the neck, then it is known as a posterior cervical discectomy and fusion (PCDF). If you have any swallowing troubles or hoarseness of your voice, your surgeon may opt to perform a PCDF. Patients often times can be discharged the same day of their surgery.
