Scoliosis

Scoliosis is a sideways curvature of the spine.

Scoliosis is most commonly diagnosed in childhood or early adolescence and is characterized by a sideways curvature of the spine. Patients often exhibit uneven shoulder blades, waist, hip, or rib-cage. Scoliosis patients often experience mental health issues due to their decreased quality of life and dissatisfaction with their body appearance. Patients are often monitored closely with X-Ray to determine the trajectory of the curvature. Severe scoliosis can cause a reduction in the amount of space within the chest, leading to breathing problems. Mild cases may be treated through conservative measures, such as a brace, while more complex cases may warrant surgical intervention.
